Viera High School
Viera High School is a high school in Viera, Florida run by Brevard Public Schools. It was the fifteenth high school in the district and the first of the 21st Century Classroom schools in the county. The school is located on a 50 acres (20 ha) campus with a student capacity of 2,338.[1] The estimated budget for the project is $46,000,000. The H.J High Construction Company was contracted to design and build the facility.[2] The school opened on September 8, 2006, with a student body of 961 and 64 faculty and staff. In 2010 the student body had grown to 2,100 students and over 150 faculty and staff.
Recognition
- Students average a score of 71 on the advanced-placement examinations, among the highest in the region.[3]
- Largest marching band (225 musicians) and the biggest overall music program in the district.
- Ranked in the top 20 in the state among comprehensive high schools, based on annual FCAT scores.
- Received superior ratings for its drama department at district and state festivals
- Received a five-star rating for cafeteria food services
- Received superior ratings for chorus in district and state competitions
- Won the 2009-2010 Cape the Academy for Digital Arts & Media technology program become industry-certified in Adobe programs.
- Achieved status as one of the 10 Florida Power-Library Schools (FPLS) that recognize collective approaches to student achievement.
